Transportation Law Update: Announcements Issue

NEW YORK SUPER LAWYER

CMV Partner Robert A. Fitch has been named a 2017 New York Metro Super Lawyer by the publishers of Law & Politics. Super Lawyers selects attorneys each year for recognition through a rigorous nomination process that includes peer review by practice area and independent research on candidates. Only the top 5% of the lawyers in the New York metro area are chosen annually for this honor. Bob was also selected as a Super Lawyer in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. He is the resident partner in our New York City office. Bob concentrates his practice in the defense of architects and engineers, construction, medical and oral surgery malpractice claims, and commercial motor vehicle litigation. He received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. He is admitted to practice in New York since 1974, as well as in federal courts in Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He has tried over 100 cases to verdict and is a member of the Defense Research Institute, Federal Bar Council, PIAA and Trucking Industry Defense Association. He has a peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell of AV (the highest).

CMV SAFETY SUMMIT

Gary N. Stewart, a partner in our Harrisburg office, attended the Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit in August 2017 at the Pennsylvania State University. The event, presented by Penn State, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Pennsylvania Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee, was held at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.

Gary focuses his practice on the defense of commercial motor vehicle companies and their insurers. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island, as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, the District of New Jersey, the District of Massachusetts, the District of Rhode Island, the District of Connecticut and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First and Third Circuits. He graduated magna cum laude from the Harrisburg campus of Widener University School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, and holds U.S. Coast Guard professional licenses as Master of Oceans, Steam or Motor Vessels up to 1600 gross tons as well as Chief Officer, unlimited tonnage, all oceans. He has been selected by his peers as a Transportation/Maritime Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in 2017, 2016, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2007. He is a member of Rawle & Henderson LLP’s Executive Committee.

TRANSPORTATION MEGACONFERENCE

Nigel A. Greene, a partner in our Philadelphia office, spoke at the 2017 American Bar Association Transportation Megaconference XIII in March 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Nigel spoke in a session titled “The Top Ten List—2017,” which provided an update on the most significant legal developments impacting trucking companies and litigation over the last two years.

Nigel focuses his practice on the defense of commercial motor vehicles, municipalities, commercial general liability, and premises liability matters. In addition, he serves as an arbitrator in Philadelphia County. He is admitted to practice in the state courts of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994 and his B.A. from the Virginia Polytechnic and State University in 1989. He was appointed Vice-Chair of the ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) Commercial Transportation Litigation General Committee for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.  This is the third one-year term that Nigel has served in this position.

ARKANSAS TRUCKING SEMINAR

Anthony D. Luis, a partner in our New York City office, co-presented a session at the Arkansas Trucking Seminar in Rogers, Arkansas, in September 2017. The session, titled “Citation Manipulation: An Overview of the Effect of Traffic Tickets and Equipment Violations On Motor Carriers and Their Drivers,” focused on ways to mitigate losses from traffic and equipment citations. Anthony co-presented the session with Lee Watson, Esq., Assistant General Counsel for ArcBest.

Anthony concentrates his practice on the defense of clients involving commercial motor vehicle litigation, medical malpractice, oral surgery and dental malpractice, architectural and engineering malpractice, construction litigation, workers’ compensation and commercial litigation. Anthony received his J.D. from Western New England University School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1999. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and English in 1996 from State University of New York at Geneseo. Anthony served as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens as a prosecutor in the Homicide Investigation Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, and the Felony Trial Bureau, where he tried numerous cases to verdict including several jury trials. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Anthony has been rated AV Preeminent.
