AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS
Fred B. Buck, a partner in our Philadelphia office, was named Chair of the Federal Civil Procedure Committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers at the conclusion of the College’s Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 29, 2018.
The Federal Civil Procedure Committee monitors the operation of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and other federal procedures generally, determines the adequacy of the operation of the rules and procedures in federal civil cases, evaluates proposed changes to the federal rules, and makes recommendations in these matters to the Federal Advisory Committee on Rules of Civil Procedure and others. Fred was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2011. Fellowship in the College is extended only by invitation to experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of trial advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.
Fred is Chair of the Firm’s Professional Liability and Casualty Sections. He has been an active litigator and trial lawyer for over 35 years. He earned an A.B., cum laude, from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Temple University School of Law. He has represented clients in high exposure cases in many diverse areas of the law, including general negligence, civil rights, product liability, professional liability, commercial motor vehicle, and construction site accidents. He has tried many jury and nonjury cases in the Courts of Common Pleas of Philadelphia, Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike and York Counties as well as in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania. He has argued appeals in the Pennsylvania Appellate Courts and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Fred was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2010 and currently holds the rank of Advocate. He is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION SEMINAR
Zachary M. Rubinich was a panelist at the seminar “Navigating LHWCA and State Workers’ Comp Claims” in September in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The seminar was presented by the Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee and Workers’ Compensation Committee of the ABA Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section.
The program consisted of two one-hour panels. The first panel addressed differences in practice between handling Longshore and Harborworkers’ Compensation Act/Defense Base Act claims, and state workers’ compensation claims. The second panel discussed recent developments in the law and significant case updates in LHWCA/DBA and state workers’ compensation practice.
Zach Rubinich is a partner in our Philadelphia office. He focuses his practice on the defense of insurance carriers, self-insured entities and third-party administrators against workers’ compensation claims in Pennsylvania. Based on his extensive experience, the Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Law Section has certified him as Specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law. Zach has handled all aspects of litigation before workers’ compensation judges, the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board, the Commonwealth Court and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He routinely counsels employers, insurance carriers and third party administrators on claims management, workplace safety, return-to-work programs, employment practices and risk management. Zach has been appointed the Chair of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice (TIPS) Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Law Committee for 2018-2019. He served as Vice-Chair of the ABA TIPS Workers’ Compensation and Employers’ Liability Law Committee for 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. In addition, Zach has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the 2017-2018 American Bar Association Standing Committee for Diversity and Inclusion. Zach has been rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell for the seventh consecutive year for 2019. He has been selected as a Pennsylvania Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2010 to 2014.

Rawle & Henderson LLP participated in the Global Citizen annual School Supply Drive in August 2018 to benefit students in Philadelphia public schools. Global Citizen partnered with the Philadelphia Media Network (Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News & Philly.com), 900AM-WURD, the African American Museum in Philadelphia, High Point Café and iHeart Media for this year’s drive to benefit students in underserved Philadelphia public schools. Edward J. Chiodo has joined Rawle & Henderson LLP as Of Counsel to the Firm. Edward works in the West Virginia and Pittsburgh offices. He concentrates his law practice on environmental, mass and toxic torts, professional liability, medical professional liability, insurance coverage and workers’ compensation.
Edward earned his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law in 1988 and his B.A. from Duquesne University in 1985. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and also the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania and the Southern District of West Virginia. He is a member of the Bar Associations of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Allegheny County. He has been on the Board of Directors of Mothers Hope Foundation since 2000.

Samuel A. Garson has joined our New Jersey office as an associate. He focuses his law practice on environmental, mass and toxic tort litigation.
Sam earned his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2017. He was a Beasley Scholarship Recipient. While attending Temple Law, he served as a legal intern for the City of Philadelphia Law Department’s Civil Rights Unit and as a law clerk with a Philadelphia personal injury law firm. He earned his B.A. in English, magna cum laude, in 2013 from Union College in Schenectady, New York. He was on the Dean’s list every semester and was a member of the Men’s Rugby Club.
Sam is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and also in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Rawle & Henderson LLP, he was an associate with a Philadelphia workers’ compensation, personal injury and insurance claims law firm.
