Zachary Rubinich, Esquire, a Partner in our Philadelphia, PA office participated a virtual webinar for Lorman on September 23, 2020 on the topic of “Understanding Disability in the Workplace: LTD, STD, Workers’ Compensation and Return to Work.” During this webinar, Mr. Rubinich taught the attendees the meaning of the term “Disability” under various state workers’ compensation statutes. The attendees will learn the impacts of Long Term Disability (LTD) and Short Term Disability (STD) benefits on the receipt of workers’ compensation benefits. Mr. Rubinich discussed various issues concerning return to work strategies for injured workers during this COVID-19 pandemic in order to achieve successful and efficient return to work outcomes. A discussion how to identify some of the common return to work pitfalls to avoid and how to discover the significant predictive barriers to cost-effectively remove in order to safely return injured workers to the workplace. Finally, Mr. Rubinich discussed specific strategies to assess return to work motivation, risks and factors which can impact a prolonged period of disability resulting in increased claim exposure. The learning objectives for this webinar benefitted various attendees, including attorneys, claims adjusters, risk management professionals and employer representatives.
