Since 1991 Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers recognizes the top attorneys in the nation across a variety of practice areas and firm sizes. Using a patented process of independent research and peer input, each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. The lawyers selected include those with many years of experience, as well as the Rising Stars of the profession, who are under the age of 40. Carl D. Buchholz, III is an active trial and appellate attorney in both state and federal courts, and leads the firm’s Appellate practice group. He is also co-chair of the Rawle & Henderson’s Maritime Department, practicing maritime law since 1970. He has defended ship owners and terminal operators in a variety of matters. Maureen E. Daley is the chair of Rawle & Henderson’s Premises Liability practice group and co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. She has more than 25 years of trial experience, and devotes her practice to the defense of corporate entities with commercial motor vehicle matters, products and premises liability, and construction defects. Moreover Ms. Daley has provided support and representation in all facets of employment relations matters, including drafting and interpreting company employee manuals and policies; counseling human resources personnel in dealing with employment problems; compliance with state and federal regulations; appearing before state and federal administrative agencies; and providing support in collective bargaining relationships. Claudio J. DiPaolo has been the chair of Rawle & Henderson’s Workers’ Compensation practice group since 2008.  He has practiced insurance defense litigation for more than 25 years, defending Workers’ Compensation matters on behalf of self-insured corporations, insurance carriers, small businesses, third-party administrators, and various governmental entities.  In addition, Mr. DiPaolo counsels clients about compliance with federal, state, and local laws involving a myriad of employment and general liability matters. John J. Floyd G. Cottrell focuses his practice on commercial motor vehicle, construction, and premises liability matters, representing individuals, business clients and insurance carriers. He is certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Cottrell is on the faculty of the CLM Claims College, School of Transportation. Matthew G. Chapman is a Super Lawyer Rising Star. He is a partner in the firm’s Wheeling WV office, and focuses his practice on environmental, mass and toxic torts, product liability, construction, insurance coverage, and employment relations. Mr. Chapman is admitted to practice in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Always interested in civic affairs, in 2018 he was appointed by the Governor of West Virginia to fill an unexpired term on the WV State Elections Commission. He was reappointed 2020. In that same year the WV Secretary of State nominated him to a four-year term as chairman of the Elections Commission, and was duly elected to the position by the Commission.  From 2019 to the present, Mr. Chapman was asked to represent Ohio County on the Route2/Interstate 68 Authority board of directors.
