Philadelphia, PA (December 14, 2023) – Rawle & Henderson LLP announces that its Partner, John H. McCarthy will retire at the end of the year after a 41-year career at the firm.

John McCarthy joined Rawle & Henderson immediately after graduating cum laude from Villanova Law School, where he was an associate editor of the Villanova Law Review.  At Rawle, John became a highly respected defense trial lawyer representing many clients that included colleges, universities, general contractors, subcontractors, convenience markets and hotels.

John participated in many aspects of the Firm’s growth, serving in leadership positions and mentoring young attorneys.  For more than a decade, John was a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee, and also served as its Recruiting Committee Chairperson.

Since 2010, John has volunteered at the West Chester Food Cupboard in West Chester, PA. He was elected to their Board of Directors in 2013, and also served as the organization’s Vice President. While he no longer serves on its board, John continues to be an active volunteer for the West Chester Food Cupboard.

“Not many people spend their entire legal career with one firm,” said Partner John C. McMeekin. “We are very glad that John chose to do so with Rawle & Henderson.”

John’s lawyering skills were recognized nationally in 2016, when he was elected to the National Association of Distinguished Counsel, an honor awarded to less than 1% of the defense counsel in the United States. He has been rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell each year from 2008 to 2023, and has repeatedly been recognized by Thomson Reuters as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since the program’s inception in 2004.
