John C. McMeekin II elected to the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania

We are pleased to announce that John C. McMeekin II, a member of Rawle & Henderson LLP’s Executive Committee was unanimously elected to the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania on June 21, 2021. The Board, referred to as a Board of Councilors, is the governing body of The Historical Society of Pennsylvania which was founded by William Rawle in 1824. HSP maintains one of the largest family history libraries, including the Rawle family archives, in the nation. HSP offers access to renowned collections on local and regional history and a manuscript collection of 17th-, 18th-, and 19th-century holdings. Since the Balch Institute’s merger with HSP in 2002, HSP has become one of the nation’s leading repositories of ethnic and immigrant studies materials. HSP houses some 600,000 books, pamphlets, serials, and microfilm reels; 20 million manuscripts; and over 300,000 graphics items. With its extensive collection HSP is one of the nation’s largest non-governmental repositories of documentary materials. HSP holds many national treasures, such as the first draft of the United States Constitution, an original printer’s proof of the Declaration of Independence, and the earliest surviving American photograph. HSP offers a rich, complex portrait of U.S. history and society from the 17th century to the present.
