Philadelphia PA (July 3, 2023) – Partner Brett Wolfson obtained a defense verdict for a plumbing contractor in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on June 30, 2023.

The case involved claims against our client for negligence, fraud and conspiracy, for renovations performed on a large property in Philadelphia. The plaintiff sought economic damages for alleged negligence, claimed she was entitled to punitive damages for fraud, and treble damages and attorneys’ fees pursuant to Pennsylvania’s Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.

Judge Elizabeth T. Hey, United States Magistrate for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, presided over the five day trial. She dismissed plaintiff’s demand for punitive damages before sending the case to the jury. After deliberating over complex legal issues for approximately seven hours and 13-page verdict slip, a jury of eight unanimously found in favor of our client.

Rawle attorneys Mary Ann Capriotti and Joseph A. Gorman performed a substantial amount of work on this case and were instrumental in developing our successful defense.
