Bart Shanahan is an associate in the firm’s Wilmington office representing small and large businesses as well as individuals in complex multi-party litigation involving toxic tort matters.
Mr. Shanahan began his career as a legal assistant in a well-known civil defense law firm in Delaware where he assisted attorneys in the collection and assembly of historical documents for discovery purposes and for trial. As his trial support responsibilities grew, so did his fondness for the law. He decided to pursue a legal career and continued his employment with the firm on a part-time basis while attending law school.
Upon graduation and admission to the Bar, Mr. Shanahan’s background and experience made him perfectly suited to assume a supervisory and managerial role over paralegals assigned to discovery and trial preparation tasks. He was involved in all aspects of case management and trial preparation for dockets at times exceeding 500 active matters.
Mr. Shanahan has been involved in litigating complex choice of law issues and navigating HIPAA, Social Security, and military protocols to secure documents and materials sought through discovery. He has a depth of experience in motion practice ranging from procedural matters to dispositive issues. He has been involved with and coordinated legal strategy often collaborating with attorneys from multiple jurisdictions and has served on trial teams in tort cases as well as business and contract disputes.
Beginning in 2010, Mr. Shanahan participated in the creation and production of his firm’s Asbestos Professional Education seminars, which featured the latest legal trends in asbestos litigation in the state of Delaware. The seminars were widely attended by defense attorneys, and included presentations by subject matter experts, legal experts and members of the Delaware judiciary.
