Matthew G. Chapman is a Partner in the West Virginia office of Rawle & Henderson LLP. He focuses his law practice on environmental, mass and toxic torts, product liability, commercial motor vehicle, construction, insurance coverage and employment relations.

Upon graduation from West Virginia University College of Law, Matthew served as a law clerk for Judge O. C. “Hobby” Spaulding in Putnam County from 2010 to 2013. He then practiced with a civil litigation defense firm in Wheeling, West Virginia.  He joined Rawle & Henderson as an Associate in 2020, and was promoted to Partner in January 2023.

Matthew is active in his state government and in the legal community.  He was appointed by the Governor to serve as a member of the West Virginia State Elections Commission in 2018.  He became the Chairman of the Elections Commission in 2021, and continues to serve.  Matthew was appointed by the Ohio County Commission to serve on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Route 2/I-68 Authority in 2019.

Matthew has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star by Thomson Reuters each year from 2018 – 2024.  Since 1991 Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers recognizes the top attorneys in the nation across a variety of practice areas and firm sizes. The lawyers selected include those with many years of experience, as well as the Rising Stars of the profession, who are under the age of 40. Only 2.5% of lawyers who are eligible nationwide are selected as Rising Stars.
